Completing a 4th of July week of posts focused on local early 1900's lake resorts, let's turn our attention to Lake Sawyer, where during the 1920's, we had not one, but two significant resorts on the lake - the Grove at Lake Sawyer and Lake Sawyer Paradise. Both were apparently quite the hopping places. Courtesy of Ted and Debby Strand and Lake Sawyer Grocery, I was able to obtain two circa 1925 photos of Lake Sawyer Paradise, which was located at the southwest corner of the lake near the current Eaton family residence (now for sale) and adjacent to Lake Sawyer Park. Thanks Ted and Debby for sharing these with us.
The views today from these same vantage points are surprisingly similar nearly 90 years later. For more information on each of these resorts from past blog posts, follow the links shown above.
THIS IS WHAT IS MISSING TODAY.PLACES LIKE THIS TO SOCIALIZE, SWIM, EAT, AND TO PURSUE ALL THAT IS WATER RECREATION RELATED. RECENTLY, I WENT OUT TO LAKE RETREAT AND IT WAS GONE !! WHY ARE WE ALLOWING THESE THINGS TO HAPPEN ? IT IS PLACES LIKE THE EAGLES, ELKS,LAKE PLACES, LAKE SAWYER, LAKE 12, ETC. THAT BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER. TODAY, PEOPLE ARE BEING DISPLACED LIKE THE ANIMALS FROM THE VERY THINGS THAT NEED TO BE IN PLACE AND BRING THEM TOGETHER. ALL I HEAR IS " IT COSTS MONEY." I KNOW - EVER HEAR ABOUT VOLUNTEERISM ? THATS WHAT HAPPENED IN THE SCHOOLS. THE VOLUNTEERS STARTED GETTING PAID AND NOW THERE ARE NO MORE VOLUNTEERS IN A SCHOOL SYSTEM THAT IS GOING BANKRUPT.
