I wouldn't say Wall Street is panicked. It's simply that an established order (high oil prices) has been upset and now security values adjust, meaning the ups and mostly downs of finding the market-settling share price of the underlying securities. A small drop in the price of commodities may be cause for celebration, a catastrophic collapse may be cause for alarm, as the underlying forces may still be unknown. For all we know, six or seven years of zero interest rates may be a culprit in what seems like an improbably fall in the price of energy.
