When I think of Buckley, I think logging and the tradition of the Buckley Log Show. The 43rd Anniversary of the Buckley Log Show is scheduled this weekend June 25 - 26. If you haven't been there, it's time to put it on your calendar. Much fun. With such a long history of logging, I guess it stands to reason that Buckley at one time was also home to one or more sawmills, including the Page Lumber Co.

In the photo above, we see huge logs delivered to the sawmill by railcar along the Northern Pacific Railroad. Written on each log are the number of board feet. The first log is 102" in diameter. How in the world did they lift these to set them on a railcar.
The following photo offers a broader view of town and a large unnamed sawmill - perhaps the Page Lumber Co. mill.

I don't see a log pond though it may be located on the other side of the mill. It would have been pretty hard to wrestle these logs around without a mill pond at the time. Will keep looking for more Buckley mill photos. Enjoy the Log Show.
I have a photo taken by Darius Kinsey of the Page Lumber Company employees (around 100). Let me know if you are interested.
