The first photo looks suspiciously like a creek bed being used for an easy early road. Roads often follow creeks and rivers because they have typically eroded the surrounding topography to the easiest grade to follow. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks David. I knew that McClellan became governor of New Jersey but not that he ran for president. Rather full of himself it would appear.
