There was a time not too long ago that lakes in our area regularly froze over each winter. As recently as the 1980's, I was able to ice skate all the way around Lake Sawyer. And although Lake Sawyer water temperature is currently down to 44 degrees F according to Lake Sawyer Weather, it doesn't appear likely that it will freeze again any time soon. 44 degrees, though, is certainly cold enough to get the attention of participants in the annual Lake Sawyer Community Club sponsored Polar Bear Jump 2017 at the Boat Launch on New Years day. Way to go neighbors!
The following photo from the 1950's courtesy of Jack Sperry, shows the Sperry clan out for a "stroll". Jack Sr. is to the left in a sweater pulling Jack Jr. on his sled and the rest of the family wearing skates.
Fun picture. Thanks again Jack for sharing with us.
