Hi I am Dave Cox and am curious of the location of this switchback. I have seen many pictures of the Stampede Switchbacks including all 5 switches, but this one is new.

I would love to discuss this with you.


BTW you are correct on the locomotive. 0-4-0's were no longer running mainlines by 1880. According to Mainstreeter (NPRHA) vol 17-2, 6 Consolidations and 2 Decapods were assigned to the switchbacks. The Consolidations would bring the train from Weston to the switchback then attach the Decapods across the the top to the end of the switchback and let the Consolidations take it to Easton and vise versa.

Thanks Dave. I don't have any info re the exact location of the switchbacks. I can only assume that they were on the west side of the pass/tunnel and not far from the tunnel.
